Matcha (抹茶) is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed Japanese green tea leaves.
The green tea plants used for matcha are shade-grown for three to four weeks before harvest and the stems and veins are removed during processing.
During shaded growth, the green tea plant produces more theanine and caffeine giving it it’s characteristic flavor.
This matcha is one that you can drink over and over again either on it’s own or with your favorite Japanese sweets or desserts.
While you can get all the special accessories traditionally used to make matcha (for example during a traditional tea ceremony.)
You don’t need them.
Simply use what you have if you wish.
And after adding a little bit of hot water and stirring with a whisk, frother or even a blender, you’ll soon enjoy the same flavor and aroma you’d get like you were drinking matcha in Japan.
