Came damaged with a broken seal and leaking all over
I will think twice about ordering food items on Amazon again, since there doesn’t seem to be any way to get a replacement or refund when your item arrives damaged. This arrived with a broken seal and leaking all over the place. It smells strange, I haven’t had this brand of umeboshi before, so no way to know if it’s normal. Very disappointed as I was really looking forward to this for onigiri.
f you like eating pickled goods but want to try something different? Try this delicacy that has been used in pasta, rice balls, and desserts.
The fragrance of the plum and vinegar after-taste is a required taste but once you get used to it, you end up craving for more. I recommend using it as an exercise snack, especially for sweaty prep work days. I eat these during Summer while drinking a bottle of water in the shade. in the past ten years, I have not gotten a heat stroke.
Be cautious though, the recommended daily intake for pickled plums is 1-2 a day, that's just how high the salt content is!!
I fell in love with Umeboshi many years ago when I was in Japan for work for waay to long. These taste exactly like I remember, a salty, sour umami blast. I just eat them straight, but also make ume-shiso maki, another great taste. I'm even going to grow shiso this year to go along with these. Just ignore the prop 65 warnings, one of the dumbest standards ever. I don't think there's anything CA doesn't think causes cancer. If you're really interested, do some real searching to understand why it's so lame.
The label on the website was different than the label on the product when it arrived. It was false and misleading. When it arrived, the ingredients were different and included high fructose corn syrup which I avoid. And the was a warning: Consuming this product can expose you to chemicals including Lead, which is know to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. I would not have bought this if I had seen the current label.
Never tried anything like this before. They taste a lot like a sour pickle. We had heard these things were extremely sour. Like one of the most sour things you can have. But heck, lemons are more sour than this. They have a certain addictive quality to them. You keep wanting to come back and get another one.
That's not to say there's some super gourmet delicacy. They're just a simple snack item that's sour and salty. Not some culinary powerhouse. They're fine. They're good.
I love everything Asian food. Being from hawaii and living in SC sucks cause the food is all the same and I have to drive far for authentic Asian food of anykine. 2 packs of this Ume or “pickled plum” for the price of one was super awesome! Got here so quick and taste just like home!
