Yosemite National Park and the Mist Trail Day Hike
The Mist trail is one of the more popular trails in Yosemite National Park. Round trip, it is about 7 miles if you go all the way to Nevada falls with about 1800 feet elevation change. You’ll pass by Vernal Falls along the way. And if you go to the top, you will also be able to see Liberty Cap and the back side of Half Dome. It sounds like it could be a strenuous hike, but there are plenty of good viewpoints to keep you occupied along the way. So I would say its more so a moderate level hike.
Tthe Mist trail gets its name from the waterfall spray that you pass along the way. Because of that we thought we should be prepared for the hike. So, we bought ponchos at the gift shop prior to going up in case there was going to be a lot of water. As we hiked the trail, we got lucky since there really wasn’t any area that we would have gotten soaked. The water spray was like a light drizzle. I could definitely see how you could get really wet if there was more water coming down though.
We also took a few snack and our backpacking chairs so we could relax at the top. Just something to consider. Also, in order to get to the trailhead we used the shuttle bus from Curry Village. (We drove by the lot and saw that it was full.)
Since we went in May, the good thing was that it also wasn’t too crowded. We were able to do the whole trail in about 4 1/2 hours round trip. Here are some of the pictures from that trip –
